You Can Take My Life, But You Can’t Take My Soul

You can try to steal our livelihood,
But I won’t give you my spirit
I will keep sharing what is true
Even if you don’t want to hear it

Money drives so much of our lives
You try to make yours
By threatening mine
But the truth is inherent
None of this is permanent

My home, my friends,
Travel to different world ends
All of it will stay
And when I’m long gone away
Only my soul will exist

And this is why I care to preserve it
Even if it means you feel I don’t deserve
To eat at your table
To work in your office
To fly on your airplane
And possibly become jobless

God is my authority
Even if you try to claim it
My heart is emboldened
And nothing you do will tame it
